Glossary Terms

Allergen |A substance that causes an allergic reaction  

All Natural Existing in or formed by nature  

Antifungal |Active against fungi and used to prevent fungal growth 

Antioxidant | Substances that protect your skin cells against free-radicals and other potential damage  

Anti-inflammatory |Used to reduce inflammation  

Antimicrobial |Destroys and prevents the growth of microorganisms, especially pathogenic microorganisms   

Antiseptic |Prevent the growth of disease-causing microorganisms  

Anti-viral |Effective against viruses  

Certified Organic |In Canada products must be certified by an accredited certification body under the Canadian Organic Standards (Government of Canada, 2018)  

Collagen |Protein found in the body that promotes skin strength, smoothness, elasticity and skin cell regeneration  

Detoxify |To become free of toxic substances or qualities  

Eczema | Common medical condition where patches of skin become red and inflamed, often accompanied by blisters that cause itching and bleeding  

Fair Trade Sourced | Label guiding consumers to support products from certified farms that provide fair wages and safe working conditions (Mother Earth News, 2008)  

Fragrance |Or perfume -  pleasant, sweet smell  

Free-radicals |Uncharged cells that are potentially dangerous to the body. Exposure to UV light, smoke and air pollution produces free radicals that damage collagen.  

Holistic |Treatment approach in medicine geared towards a person as a whole, considering mental and social factors, rather than physical symptoms only  

Linoleic Acid |Otherwise known as omega-6 fatty acid with multiple health benefits that needs to be obtained from a healthy diet often found in plant oils, nuts, flaxseed oil and more (Attard, 2017)  

Linolenic Acid |Otherwise known as omega-3 fatty acid essential for normal growth and development often found in oily fish or seaweed (Attard, 2017)  

Minerals |A solid inorganic substance of natural occurrence  

Non-GMO |Otherwise known as non-genetically modified organisms created in a laboratory using genetic modification/ engineering techniques (The Organic & Non-GMO Report, 2018)   

Oleic Acid |Monounsaturated fatty acid found to improve fasting plasma glucose, insulin sensitivity and blood circulation (Richardson, 2017)  

Omega-3 Fatty Acids |Crucial fatty acid that delivers numerous health benefits within the body, often obtained from food various sources (WebMD, 2018)  

Organic |Grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation (Organic.org, 2018)  

pH levels | The measure of hydrogen on a scale from one to fourteen where a pH less than seven is considered acidic and a solution more than seven is considered basic or alkaline (Felicetti, 2012)  

Psoriasis |Skin condition identified by red, itchy, scaly patches  

Ricinoleic Acid |Omega-9 fatty acid found in castor oil said to increase absorption in the skin and used to treat various skin conditions (Cobb, 2017)  

Serum |Lightweight moisturizers that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients to the skin (Huffpost, 2018)  

Socially Conscious |Sense of responsibility, concern and care for the society as a whole  

Sustainable |Conserving an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural resources

Argan Nut Oil |Effective for reducing rashes and itchiness, it can minimize dermatitis flare-ups like eczema. Rich in Vitamin E and other essential fatty acids like oleic acid, linoleic acid, and omega-3 fatty acids to help lock moisture in the skin and protect cell integrity.  

Beeswax |Seals in hydration  

Breath Essential Oil Blend |Clarify the mind and open up essential airways  

Borage Oil |High in omega-6 fatty acid this oil is beneficial for soothing dry, damaged, or irritated skin  

Calendula Flower |Anti-viral and anti-inflammatory, it also boosts production of collagen and minimizes scarring  

Castor Oil |Ricinoleic acid helps minimize stretch marks, promote cell regeneration, plump, smooth and nourish the skin  

Citrus Verbena Essential Oil | Antioxidant rich to reduce signs of aging, cleanses acne prone skin and brightens and tones complexion  

Coconut Oil |Naturally anti-microbial, it is rich in Vitamin E to relieve chapped skin  

Dead Sea Salt |Contains more than 20 elements and composed of a very rich mineral composition it helps to cleanse, soothe, and revitalize the skin  

Evening Primrose Oil |High in essential fatty acids, known to help with the overall appearance of the skin, and beneficial to those affected by eczema and psoriasis  

Frankincense Essential Oil |Antioxidant rich for healthy cell regeneration plus, it evens out scars and blemishes to reduce fine lines. The aroma induces relaxation and lowers stress.  

Himalayan Salt | Comes from a mine near the Himalayas and contains an estimated 84 different minerals and trace elements  

Jojoba Seed Oil |A liquid plant wax often used to soothe acne, psoriasis, sunburn and dry skin and reduces oiliness by regulating the skin’s natural oil production 

Lavender Essential Oil |Contains many antibacterial and antifungal properties. Soothes the nervous system and induces sleep and relaxation.  

Magnesium Flakes |Designed to deliver magnesium through the skin for rapid absorption (Ancient Minerals, 2017)  

Mango Seed Oil | High in fatty acids, conditions and cleanses the skin  

Myrrh Essential Oil |Improves texture and unwanted scars, soothes itchiness and reduces symptoms of eczema and other skin conditions. Promotes alertness, concentration, and boosts energy.

Shea Oil | Supports collagen production to smooth out wrinkled skin and increase elasticity
